October 21: Saint Hilarion

St. Hilarion

History

Born in Palestine, Saint Hilarion was a student of St. Anthony the Great. He lived with St. Anthony in the desert and learned all about serving Christ before he became a hermit (somebody who lives all alone) near Gaza, Israel. Once he started working miracles, such as healing people or driving out demons, it was really hard for him to remain a hermit. All kinds of people wanted his help. He and another monk, St. Heschius, traveled all over to escape the crowds, but they never could.

Activity

Saint Hilarion supported himself by weaving baskets. So, try your hand at paper weaving. Here is are instructions for construction paper baskets that are easy enough for little hands. Older children may want to try a slightly more complicated basket made out of Sunday comics or old road maps

Saint Hilarion, pray for us!
