August 8: St. Dominic

History

When Saint Dominic was a boy, hardly anybody in his country had enough to eat. He would sell his clothes, furniture, and even expensive school books to feed the hungry. After Dominic became a priest, he started a new religious order that helped many people convert to Christianity. Dominic tried very hard to live his life as a sacrifice to Jesus. For example, when he was traveling around to preach, he would take his shoes off and walk barefoot, even if the road was covered with sharp stones.

Activity

Today, you can make your own sacrifice for Jesus. Maybe you can walk barefoot, give up meat or sweets for the day, or go without something else. Whatever you do, make sure that you offer it to the Lord.

Saint Dominic, pray for us!

SPECIAL NOTE: Our brothers and sisters in Christ in parts of Iraq are being threatened with their very lives for believing in Christ. Make a sacrifice today for them, and pray for them!
