December 8: Saint Romaric

St. Romaric

History

Romaric’s father had been a rich and important person, but Queen Brunehilda killed him and took over all his property, leaving Romaric homeless. Romaric managed to work his way into an important position in the French king’s court. He had a lot of property of his own and a large number of serfs (people who were required to work for him without payment). After Saint Amatus taught him about Jesus, Romaric didn’t care about being important any more. He freed all of his serfs and some of them became monks with him. Some of his family members also became religious sisters and brothers, too.

Activity

Romaric was homeless for quite some time. Being homeless is especially difficult in the wintertime, when the weather can be cold and wet. So today, pray for homeless people in your community and talk about what you can do as a family to help out. Do you have sleeping bags that you don’t use? Or warm blankets, coats, hats, gloves and socks to spare? Find an organization in your community that helps the homeless and donate these items to help keep someone warm this winter.

St. Romaric, pray for us!
